Contrary to popular belief, Scotland is a beautiful country that despite the bad weather is the ultimate beach holiday location. If you are visiting Scotland then you should try to organise your trip for the summer so that you may enjoy these idyllic seaside locations in all their glory. Below is a list of the most beautiful beaches in Scotland, so beautiful you will be in disbelief of their geographic location.
St Ninian’s Isle, Shetland, Scotland
The beach at St Ninian’s Isle is a wide streth of golden sand that forms a tombolo (a deposition landform where an island is attached to the mainland by a narrow piece of land). On a clear sumer’s day you are guaranteed jaw dropping views and at times the sand is occupied by puffins. What’s not to love?! This beach is located just off of Shetland, a Scottish Island, which can be reached by plane.
Luskentyre Beach, Isle of Harris
A stunning beach with white sands with views of the mountain of North Harris and the isle of Taransay (starred in BBC’s Castaway). You can get a ferry to Luskentyre beach from the Isle of Skye.
Sandwood Bay, North Highlands
This is a remote and allusive beach that even some locals don’t know about. There is no carpark or transport links nearby meaning you need to hike for four miles from Blairmore. For those who love exploring, Sandwood Bay is secluded and offers golden sands that stretch for a mile and a view of Am Buachaille sea stack. You can reach Sandwood Bay on foot from Blairemore or Cape Wrath. The nearest airport is Stornoway or the Isle of Lewis.

Achnahaird, Ross-Shire
Recommended by Visit Scotland, Achnahaird is one for the visit list. The sands are creamy white with views of breath-taking landscapes and blue lagoon like waters. This beach has been in a film called The Eagle starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Bell. You can reach Achnaird by flying direct to Inverness and either drive one and a half hours west or catch a bus by Traveline Scotland to Ullapool. It is a 45 minute drive from Ullapool to the golden sands of Achnahaird.
