Since the year of 2020, lives have changed all around the world due to the global pandemic of the coronavirus. We are not living the way we did before. We are now looking at everything from a different angle and perspective, including education, travel, employment, and healthcare. From industries such as hospitality to airlines, there has been financial limitations which have led to the closure of many businesses.
In this article, we will briefly discuss some of the central aspects of our life that have changed due to COVID-19. We will cover both the positive and negative aspects of that change.
Education
The education sector has been affected worldwide by the pandemic, and major changes had to be brought into place extremely fast in order to keep young people’s education a priority to run smoothly. Many, if not all, classes have been moved online and are carried out remotely. This has been implemented through primary schools, high schools and higher education such as college and universities.
Studies have shown that young people’s mental health has been at an all-time-low. From the isolating factors that come with online classes, students are feeling increased levels of anxiety and depression. Being away from friends, teachers and the lack of routine has been proven to taking its toll on mental health.
One positive that can be taken from the remote working of education, is that online classes have given students and teachers/lecturers the latest technology (where possible). Teachers have continued to be connected to their students online and for pupils who may suffer with social anxiety, they can freely ask questions via text, chat box or even a private online meeting. It has also saved time and extra expenditure on travelling expenses for students and teachers/lecturers.
Employment
The global pandemic has encouraged one of the worst employment crises since The Great Depression. With businesses closing down rapidly and liquidation rates increasing faster than ever before, people were being let go from their jobs, becoming redundant or leaving out of choice. With great job loss, comes poverty which is another factor that increased consistently throughout the year of 2020.
A positive factor that has come from this pandemic on employment, is people in most jobs and industries can work from home. People are being given the freedom of working flexible hours to fit their own personal lives. Job opportunities that come from all around the world, can be offered remotely to candidates.
Travelling
People can not travel as easily as they did before. There is a number of rules and guidance implemented before and after travelling to and from a different location. For example, PCR and lateral flow travel testing in Croydon continues to remain a vital method in detecting the virus in travellers.
However, with guidance easing slightly with time, travellers are more inclined to visit more places and travel more often when possible. With the easing of restrictions, the travel industry has seen positive financial gain. This comes with the hope that it will continue.
Conclusion
Whenever you live in the world your life may have changed in some way due to the COVID-19 pandemic. whether this be your education, your childs education, your employment status, or have you travel in your spare time, there are changes that we have all had to adopt in order to fit the narrative of the new normal.
